Toronto, Ontario, June 27, 2019 - The Guarantee Company of North America, with support from The Cowan Foundation, today announces a two-year, $50,000 commitment to support the Bateman Foundation. The contribution is part of the company’s Regional Arts Program which was launched in 2017 and supports charitable arts organizations across Canada.

Founded in 2012 by world-renowned artist and naturalist, Robert Bateman, the Bateman Foundation aims to connect all people to nature through the lens of art, and is one of the only non-profits in Canada focused on using artwork to promote a connection to nature.

The donation will support three main initiatives, including a major Grizzly Bear exhibition in 2020; Nature X, a monthly lecture series by prominent naturalists, environmental leaders and artists; and an advanced Nature Sketch program aimed at connecting youth to nature.

As founder Robert Bateman says, “From the beginning of time we have been connected to nature, but for the first time in history, that connection threatens to be broken for most of an entire generation and perhaps generations to come. When children play in nature – climb trees, build forts and dams in creeks and go exploring – here is what happens: they have less obesity, less likelihood of developing attention deficit disorder, lower rates of depression and suicide, less alcohol and drug abuse, less bullying, plus, they get higher marks…nature is magic.”

Through the Regional Arts Program, The Guarantee aims to make a positive difference in the lives of Canadians by giving back to local communities. It recognizes that one of the greatest contributions it can make to the future success of our country is to invest in the education of young people.

“We are thrilled about this partnership,” said Donna Barclay, President and COO, The Guarantee Company of North America. “The Bateman Foundation is addressing a critical need in our society in a collaborative, innovative way. We are particularly delighted to sponsor the Grizzly Bear exhibit.  Appreciation of these magnificent creatures will spark broader based support for their protection.”

The Gallery of Nature features a variety of Canadian artists and exhibits focused on nature and conservation. Nature Sketch has been expanded from a local Gallery Education program to a national program, which is now offered in six major cities and schools across Canada.
