Toronto, Ontario, June 27, 2019 – The Guarantee Company of North America, with support from The Cowan Foundation, is continuing its partnership of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) for the third year, marking a total commitment of $75,000. The contribution is part of The Guarantee Regional Arts Program, launched in 2017, to support charitable arts organizations across Canada.
The MMFA’s Foundation supports many missions including the presentation of exhibitions, various education and art-therapy programs, and social and community programs. On March 4th, The Guarantee was pleased to be a Presenting Sponsor at the MMFA’s President’s Circle evening where the Montreal world premiere of the Thierry Mugler exhibit was unveiled. Wildly popular with media and welcoming guests from all over the world, this exhibit is an international success, with over 125,000 visitors to date.
“The Montréal Museum of Fine Arts is not a state Museum and therefore must self-finance 60% of its annual operational budget. Thanks to generous and dynamic partners such as The Guarantee and the Cowan Foundation we are able to attract more than 1 million visitors per year, the highest attendance in Canada for an art museum, as well as more than 300,000 participants in our educational and well-being activities,” mentioned Danielle Champagne, General Director of the MMFA’s Foundation. This program was acknowledged recently by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) who recognized the pioneering role of the MMFA for the many exemplary actions supported by our innovative humanistic and inclusive vision, a vector of social progress in our society.”
“The Guarantee is incredibly proud to support the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and its many positive impacts,” said Donna Barclay, President and COO, The Guarantee Company of North America. “The Regional Arts Program allows us to make a positive difference in the lives of Canadians by giving back to local communities. In this case, our contribution goes toward supporting the MMFA in delivering excellent educational programs and in promoting new approaches to art as an agent of social cohesion.”
“The Cowan Foundation is pleased to support The Guarantee Regional Arts Program,” says Mary D’Alton, Executive Director, The Cowan Foundation. “We are proud to be a part of the inspiring work being done across the country to draw people of all ages into the world of art in all its forms.”
In 2018, The Guarantee was the Presenting Sponsor at the MMFA’s President’s Circle of the Alexander Calder exhibit and the Picasso exhibit. Other organizations supported by The Regional Arts Program this year are the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario and The Bateman Foundation in Victoria, BC.
About the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts
Drawing over 1 million visitors annually, the MMFA is one of the most visited museum in Canada and North America. Its highly original temporary exhibitions combine various artistic disciplines – fine arts, music, film, fashion and design – and are exported to the four corners of the world. Its rich encyclopedic collection, displayed in its five pavilions, includes international art, world cultures, decorative arts and design, and Quebec and Canadian art. The Museum has seen exceptional growth in recent years with the addition of two new pavilions: the Claire and Marc Bourgie Pavilion, in 2011, and the Michal and Renata Hornstein Pavilion for Peace, in 2016. The MMFA complex also includes Bourgie Hall, a 460-seat concert hall, as well as an auditorium and a movie theatre. The MMFA is one of Canada’s leading publishers of art books in French and English, which are distributed internationally. The Museum also houses the Michel de la Chenelière International Atelier for Education and Art Therapy, the largest educational complex in a North American art museum, enabling the MMFA to offer innovative educational, wellness and art therapy programmes. mbam.qc.ca
