Toronto, Ontario, June 27, 2019 - The Guarantee Company of North America, with support from The Cowan Foundation, today announces a $25,000 commitment to the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake for the 2019 season, as part of The Guarantee Regional Arts Program.
The Guarantee has a longstanding partnership with the Shaw Festival. This year’s sponsorship will support schools in the Halton Region, offering eight elementary and secondary classes a chance to attend a performance, participate in a tour or workshop, and enjoy a post-performance discussion with the actors.
“The Shaw Festival strongly believes that access to the arts is critical for youth. We are thrilled and grateful that The Guarantee shares this belief and is making it possible for so many students to experience a day at The Shaw,” says Cindy Mewhinney, Director of Advancement, Shaw Festival. “The Guarantee’s gift will provide an experience that will stick with the children for a lifetime and hopefully spark a lifelong love of theatre.”
“The Cowan Foundation is pleased to support The Guarantee Regional Arts Program,” says Mary D’Alton, Executive Director, The Cowan Foundation. “We are proud to be a part of the inspiring work being done across the country to draw people of all ages into the world of art in all its forms.”
Stemming from their love of the work of Irish playwright, Bernard Shaw, Ontario lawyer and playwright Brian Doherty alongside Calvin G. Rand of Buffalo, founded the Shaw Festival in 1962. Now, the Shaw Festival has grown into one of North America’s largest and most respected cultural icons, with 12-14 productions per year running in tandem on three stages, employing hundreds of the world’s top artists each season and generating countless educational experiences for all ages.
“We are very excited about continuing our partnership with the Shaw Festival for 2019,” said Dean Bast, VP National Distribution Management and Regional General Manager, Ontario/Atlantic, The Guarantee Company of North America. “We are especially pleased to support the Halton Region school board by creating an opportunity for students to attend the theatre and foster an understanding and appreciation for the arts.”
In 2017, The Guarantee Company of North America launched the Regional Arts Program with a view to making a positive difference in the lives of Canadians by giving back to local communities. The Guarantee recognizes that one of the greatest contributions it can make to the future success of our country is to invest in the education of young people.
Mid-May, The Guarantee hosted their GUARANTEE GOLD® Prestige Broker Council members at a matinee showing of the Shaw Festival’s Getting Married. This event was an opportunity for staff and brokers to celebrate their partnership and continue to build their strategic relationship to better serve the clients and customers.
